my mom recently bought a 2003 for focus and about 3 weeks later the car leaves her stranded. she took it to a mechanic and he says theres water in the heads and that the head is fucked and its going to cost her $1000 to fix thats if its not cracked. if it is then its going to be more money.
i dont know what a repair like this goes for but i need some opinions.

Gosh, thats why I hate mechanics(the dishonesty). Tell him to be clear, because water in the head, last time I check, was normal. There are passages on the head were coolant flows so that means nothing. $1000 dollars to fix? WTF, thats the same price for a new engine head for the ford focus.
I know I´m missing something
he probably meant something along the lines of the headgasket going and the head being warped when it over heated. its not much money on actual parts but most mechanics will charge an arm and a leg to repair it.
