View Full Version : who knows their car audio/video well?
looking to get a nice lil sound system for the car.
wanna be able to control my ipod or mp3 player from the head unit (preferably a tv) i would also like to hook up AV (red white and yellow) cables to the ipod and put it in tv mode and watch videos straight from the ipod or a camcorder or whatever.
would look good mids n highs. maybe somehting with a small amp. also would like some good sound quality with a lil bass without an subwoofers (if thats possible without sounding like ass or interfering with the highs and mids)
no distortion at high frequencies or anything or at loud volume
reason i dont want subs is because its a truck and theres barely any space to put it in. only place i can put it in is under the cab seat (04 dodge ram quad cab) and a custom box for that would be a bitch, although they exist.
any suggestions on speaker brand/models or anything? i kinda have a few hookups at best buy and i can get shit and employee pricing. im leaning towards a tv because ive always wanted a touch screen in the ride. and trying to avoid getting subwoofers... im kind of sick of them honestly. like, i like bass but i hate the rattling and vibrating

first i would say, that at 1:30am, u arent likely to get a response quickly and then bumping ur thread at 7:12 and then 8:03am when most members arent on is futile. With that said, if you want a full range of sound for a SQ type system(sound quality) your going to want a "sub" in there somewhere.
What year is ur dodge quad cab. It will be easier to get help with an idea of where your speakers are located in the vehicle and what kind of space is being used.
I am by no means an expert, but i know a little bit so ill do my best.
What year truck and model

i became MECP certified in my younger days so im pretty good at installing. first off, whats your budget for a setup? are you looking for a SQ (sound quality) or SPL (sound pressure level) system? what kind of car is this going into?
going into an 04 dodge ram quad cab. u can see some pics at my myspace. http://www.myspace.com/walking0rgasm
im considering getting just an mp3/cd player that supports ipod instead of an indash television. i had a pioneer back in the day and i loved it but it got jacked... theres a nice alpine out there that has a very small monitor and supports ipod realy well. . and i kinda have a bestbuy hookup from a high school friend who i hooked up on his cell phone a while ago so i can get employee pricing.
i definetly dont want to overspend on this system. i prefer sound quality i guess (i dont know what they mean by sound pressure).
in dodge trucks u can get a custom box and put the subs underneath the rear seat. theres very little air space. i am considering getting just one sub and a small amp. my quadding days are long gone and honestly i never turn it up much when i am with friends or i have a girl in the truck. i do feel that its not as loud as i want it most times however...

sounds like you just need to get a deck with an ipod connector. what you described in the first post is going to cost you around 2g's if done the right way. it can cost you less if you go with DUAL or fucking JENSEN crap but then you get what you pay for.
my recommendation is to get the deck first, then move onto the door speakers, then amplify them and lastly save up for the sub, box and amp.
without a sub, your music will simply not sound the way it was meant to be heard, no matter if its rap techno rock or whatever, all music has low frequencies and the low midrange which the door speakers simply CANNOT reproduce especially at high output levels (unless you go with some REALLY RAELLY REALLY high end components which im sure you dont want to overspend money on)
Oh and just because you have a sub doesnt mean you'll always be quadding. But for most people bass is addicting and they do end up getting more and more and more until they find themselves quadding everywhere they go.

i purchased that unit from ebay and saved $200 overall.
Retails for $450 and i picked it up for just over $200 with shipping.
In a truck, you dont need a massive sub to complete the imaging of an decent sound system. You can pick up a good 8 inch sub to do the job right, just have to make sure its powered and set up right with the proper box.

btw i used to have mtx audio enclosures in my f-150 the one that was custom fit for each truck, i think it had 4 8's. not the craziest bass but it was a nice addition to the speakers and saved a hell of a lot of space.
look into that
^yeah someone recommended 8s lat night for me.
michael, was it this one?
