for a good price...Only thing that really needs to be done is put everything in a destructive chassis into a clean chassis. My question is how much skill is required to do a task. Any special tools needed?

hey man. Well first off you need a rear stand and a front stand it makes working on the bike too easy. I personally don't have both so im on a bit of a mission =). Your bike could have the 2 kickstands so your good, personally don't know the bike to well to tell you if its going to be a mission or not but changing everything from one frame to another is not hard, just need time and patience if its your first time.

All i found was this http://www.cheapbastidracing.com/stuff/ex500_gpx500_1987-1993_service_manual.pdf
i read the forums and even though thats the first gens manual it could also work for the one you have, just have to look for the differences. If your going to keep the bike the best thing to do is go to the forums and just read. If i can do it, trust me you can do it too. good luck
