I can run 5 miles. I usually just do sprints and alot of anerobic stuff but this freind of mine that is religious about running because he was on the track team in hs challenged me to an endurance battle. He won of course but I found out I can run 5 miles at his pace. He ended up running 8 miles on the treadmill. hes getting ready for some marathon. Nice to know I can run that much. The first 3 miles were gravy but after that I started to feel winded and made it through the 4th one so so but the last one I was dieing on and pushing my limit.
awesome, I used to hate formation runs when I was in NC. That crap sucked monkey, but you felt like a beast after it.

he's got a point.
You guys love to talk shit just for shit talking.
Eliptical is good for a low impact cardio workout. If you cant run, do the eliptical, swim or cycle. Fitness is fitness and anything is better than nothing.
I was not aware that some workouts can be actually classified as gay. Now of course unless you workout in neon tights now thats very gay.

Thats why you have to compensate by setting resistance and adjusting the incline which we did so I have no doubt I can run 5 miles on the street especially if Im going at my pace and not a runners pace.

yeah the eliptical is awesome. Alot of people dont appreciate how good it is but alot of trainers now are starting to use the eliptical more and more. Running puts alot of stress on the shins and the knees if your a heavier person you cant run like a lighter person can but if you use the elyptical you can run with out putting alot of stress on the body. I see alot of people who have knee injuries using it instead of running.

You know, i've also tried spinning class, and im the ONLY guy in that room. Yet, i couldn't finish the entire hour, i was out in 45 minutes. They were all making jokes about it, like, OHH Carlos does girl exercises now. But i've challenged them to do it with me to see who lasts longer (and healthy, fit guys) and they wont do it.
Spinning kicked my ass.

yay elliptical. let's waste 15 minutes of our day barely getting our heart rate up how fun.
actually with the elliptical trainers you can get your heart rate up faster then running because your doing more work. If your using the hand bars to pull back your getting upper body motion as well similar to what joggers try to do when they are jogging with weights. If you go to the UM or Dolphins facilities you will see the entire defensive line using the machines because they can get their conditioning in with out running because they cant run as often as normal people because they carry so much weight on their joints. 300 plus. So elliptical and sprints are their only options. Most trainers will have them do both.
Its a lot better then running in terms of frequency because you can use the elliptical machine to get the same results and you will be applying far less stress on the joints and tendons. For people like me who my conditioning greatly exceeds what my body can do in a run its more beneficial because I can probably go on the elliptical machine maintaining the same heart rate for an hour where as running wise i would have trouble doing the same thing and would probably injur myself.
but then again your just trying to piss people off and makes us but hurt huh tony

I never attacked anyone but funny how everyone gets defensive when their sexuality is questioned. I used to do elliptical and you basically dont get shit accomplished. It takes 5 minutes to get your heart rate up whereas running or the stepmill have you going from the beggining.
And going back to the the treadmill argument, the treadmill has a soft pad you run on, also it flexes on impact. So you could overcompensate with resistance and incline and it will STILL not be the same as running 5 miles on the street. You're fooling yourself Ricardo. I used to be able to run like a machine on the treadmill but once i tried to do the same distances on the street i came to the harsh realization that it is just FAR from the same, no matter what you do.

if your talking about impact wise the street is much harsher then the treadmill. but if your talking about conditioning, muscle and heart rate if you adjust the incline it can be a harder work out at the same pace. The advantage of the treadmill is the impact on your body is far less because you do alot of damage when you run. The reason running on the street feels harder is because you cause more wear and tear with it because its a really hard surface.
Usually I try to run on grass because thats on eof the best surfaces to run on because it does the least damage. Sand as well. Heart rate and conditioning wise its all the same. Alot of the older pro fighters dont even run like randy couture. He rides bikes for his conditioning armstrong style because his knees cant take it any more I think he still run sprints though

Whats your pace? 5 - 5.5 mph?
Im pretty religious on endurance street running myself. Im usually the only dude running while everyone else is trying to "Get Big".....:hsughno:
I save the "Get Big" program for my "Get Big" days but I feel strongly on long distance endurance running. Treadmill running is good but you have to understand Street Running is a completely different monster. You have the Sun, you have humidity, and much more that fatigue you much faster. Give it a try, I've grown to love street running alot more than treadmill running. I personally like the fresh air and the ability to change up my speed on the fly.

on the street im not sure on a tread mill I usually do 6.5 - 7.0 mph with a 1% incline. I adjust it higher and lower depending on how im feeling and around the last leg of the run I usually put it up higher because I dont have much left. That day I think we were in the 8 mph range. I dont recomend that unless you work up to it. Im injured now because of that exploit. I got runners knee now because of a combination of crappy form, flat feet and my legs arent used to running at that pace.
In all honesty if your doing it for health reasons and conditioning running isnt the best option. There are to many variables and it can lead to to many injuries just off of minor changes. Especially if you run on concrete. really swiming is much better

So you did the 5 miles at 6.5-7.0 mph? Good Stuff! Personally I run on the treadmill at that same pace. I usually stop at about 3- 3.5 miles but my last leg usually goes up to about 10 mph. Totally understand about the form deal and becoming injured, it does take getting used to. There was a time when i was training myself to run 5k's but felt I could not compete at competive level.
