yeah thats why I said it depends on certain applications the full manual is better then standard automatic but with dragsters the auto is alot better. The way of the manual transmition is slowly disapearing though since technology is advancing the smt's are starting to take over. Look at f1 those trannys can shift faster then any human can. At first the oem ones werent that great but they are getting better fast. The one in the last gen mr2 was really good in the sense that it responded fast and did it for a reasonable price. The lambo one is pretty bad ass but thats like a 10k add on lol

I know the new chevy 2500 HD series trani is far better than the manual, The new Camry trani is better than the manual offered for the 6, avalon has probably one of the best tranis to lay down power.

then you have beast tranis like in the r32 that damn that shits just sick. That's taking trani design to a whole new level for daily driven vehicles, basically 2 tranis side by side odd and even on opposite sides. it keeps the next gear locked in place ready to shift based on driving habbits. thing is jst sick.

also pontiac has a great one in the grandprix.

there are a lot of auto tranis out there that can surpase the manuals benifits for driving. Manuals may be a load of fun but when it comes down to shift times and laying down the best power there are still a lot of options out there for top end auto tranis in daily driven cars.

and each year they just get better and better as technologies become cheaper and easier to implement in the vehicles that we drive every day. One thing I have noticed is that Honda hasn't cared to implement any of the highe end tranis into there lines, not even a lot of the acuras use that many better quality tranis. Toyota and VW have been the pioneers in offering the better auto tranis in there lower lines and it seems that chevy actually took a hint off of them, But I still don't see a whole hell of a lot of improvement from to many other brands. Kinda sad IMHO.

i doubt that, again it depends on application. you take a 100 hp geo metro and put a built auto on it vs a stock 5 speed and the 5 speed will more than likely be faster since the auto has much more drivetrainloss and a 100 hp geo metro doesnt have much to spare.

The only reason I see fit for an auto is for a dragster that is actually having a hard time 'laying' down the power. Those cars you speak of do not fit in that category. I fail to see how a car rated at a specific horsepower level will increase substantially over what its rated at just from having a 'built' automatic and have nothing else done unless engine output was underrated as well.

In some cases, some OEM auto trannies are faster than some OEM manual trannies, Honda isn't one of them as GDM LS1 stated, and I would know personally as I had one.

i have done my reasearch and i do know that an auto loses more than a manual 99% of the time... can better use the power through the powerband? well that depends on application. and on a high mph roll the manual has the advantage because it too can use the whole powerband without having the higher drivetrain lose.
