Does any employees/staff at FIU actually WORK?

Why is it that every fricken time I call anyone at any of their departments at FIU, i ether #1 get the run around, or #2 never get an answer or #3 never get a response to my voice mails / emails.

I've come to the conclusion that everyone that works at FIU spends the entire day scratching their asses, fucking around on the internet or doing whatever the fuck else they can do to AVOID DOING THEIR JOBS.

No one ever wants to take responsibility for ANYTHING.

Today, I get a call from someone calling on behalf of my advisor. MIND YOU . . . it's 2 business days before the start of the semester.

Lady: You have to drop 6351 and pick up 6425.
Me: Umm . . . why?
Lady: Uh I dunno I was just told to call you and tell you that.
Me: But aren't you the clinical practicum professor?
Lady: Yeah.
Me: So then you should know that in your POSTED curriculum it says to take 6351 with the Clinical Practicum class and not 6425.
Lady: Well I don't know I'm just relaying the message. Your advisor is here but well um . . . I think it's better if you just call her directly or email her.
Me: Um ok.

So I call this stupid friggen advisor. She doesn't pick up. I email her, she doesn't fucking answer. TODAY is the last day to pay for classes.

I don't drop the damned course, but I pick up the other one just in case.

I call them back.

Me: Are you aware of blah blah blah situation
Lady: Yeah but we're just relaying messages.
Me: But shouldn't you guys be aware of what's going on. I mean I need to talk to someone.
Lady: I dunno we're just relaying messages. I don't have an answer for you.
Background: Other lady saying for me to drop one class for the other.
Lady: Repeats what the other lady was saying.
Me: I HEARD THAT PART. But your COURSE CATALOG and your CURRICULUM say OTHERWISE.

Finally the advisor emails me back saying that in fall of 2006 they changed the curriculum and that i Probably had an outdated list.

You mean the one POSTED ON YOUR FUCKING WEBSITE? I sent her the link. She says they're "working on it."

That copy is also the one they hand out to every fricken new student. It's still in the damned graduate catalog.

It's not the first time that I've almost been fucked over by this lady.

my first semester there, she almost screwed me over on one of the research courses. I had to pretty much do her job FOR her and get authorization numbers for myself and everyone else to be able to take the interdisciplinary course.

A semester or two ago, she almost administratively dropped at least 50 people because SHE fucked up on the catalog course schedule and we weren't supposed to take two classes as co-requisites, we were supposed to take one as a pre-requisite.

To top it off, she effed over some of my friends too in other situations. If none of us would have contacted eachother, we'd all have been screwed.

Yeah she's an ongoing problem and partially the reason why 2 of my good friends dropped out of the Master's program.

One of my friends (a prominent lawyer who had gone back to school cuz she was "bored." LoL ) was actually going to meet with the Dean regarding another situation that happened the semester before last.

I'm gonna talk to her and see if she ever met w/the Dean. Cuz if she hasn't, I'll be tagging along to that appointment. :)

I just wanna finish my Master's and be done with it. If everything goes well, I'll be done by December.

I'd considered a Doctorate, and I still am. But whether or not I do it here at FIU will be a different story.

LoL I'll be working on my license first too. After that then I'll make the final decision on the Doctorate. I kinda like research. . . which is mainly what a Doctorate in my profession is associated with but whether or not i'll be willing to do it from here to then is a different story.

sent the money order in march and it didn't get processed until late july 07 !!! :(

ive been going there for about 3 yrs now and have been dicked over countless times. my second semester there i applied for an override and got it. i was doing fine in the class for about 4 weeks when i find out that the department never processed my override so i was technically not enrolled in the class. the professor never took attendance so i found out after logging on to my panthersoft acct. that i was not in the class :madfawk:.

to make a long story short, i bitched so much they somehow enrolled me in the class and i was able to get credit for it.

Just a little advice:

If you guys ever need to speak to someone at FIU, they offer online chats for certain Dept's like Fin aid, advisement, etc. The online chats work and sometimes is a HELLLAAAA lot faster than calling and hearing you are the 21864864 person on the line. Also, the online chat allows you to have a transcript of the conversation emailed to you.

I'm not sure if I will be writing a letter or not. Being so close to graduation . . . I'm afraid they might start to f*k w/me.

Although there are some other students that are less than satisfied w/her performance that are also thinking about writing a letter. Maybe we can get together on it.

yeh...FIU is FTL with students...I was on probation last semester, which i had no clue about..not even an email til it was too late. No big deal, cause thats technically my fault..the grades that is.

i also work here, but i dont do shit with registration, fin. aid, or anything that has to do with students...but I hear alot, and Ive experienced too since I come here. Honestly just be on top of the shit you submit, you gotta hassle it over here. If you think about it, it's not easy to handle so many students..and i think fiu's taking in more than it can handle right now...and now that fackin med school..thats all they give a fawk about now.
