im using virtual dub and im trying to open an avi file to edit. every time i try to open said avi file it says i need a video for windows compatible codec to decompress the video. I tried downloading the divx codec and it didnt work and now it says direct show codec such as those used by windows media player are not suitable. Any one know where I can get what I need

Did you try the K-Lite codec package?
http://www.k-litecodecpack.com/
I don't know if they have it for more than Windows Media Player, but it works great for that.
Or you could try VLC Media Player.

If they try to charge you :madfawk:, just search for it. You can get it for free somewhere:lawl:
