i have a friend that was racing this past sunday at sebring

Don't forget that Thursday is typically qualifying, Friday is Touring Car, GT and Porsche Cup and Saturday is the 12 hour...typically 10:30 to 10:30. Saturday night is the main event (debauchery). If you're going i'd recommend taking plenty of clothes...it'll likely be 80 during the day and 50 at night, plenty to eat/drink and a bike or other means to get around. There is A LOT of ground to cover. You want to be at Turn One for the start of each race, specially the 12-hour. For the 12-hour you may need to claim your spot at tuen one more than an hour before to have a decent spot. Once the race starts good places to watch the action are turn 3, turn 6, Bishop's Bend and turn 17. I won't make it this year but hopefully I'll be back next year.
