this one seems more serious. my computer 2 days ago would randomly shut down. blue screen, restart, and at startup would say windows recovered from an unexpected shutdown.

i reformatted the computer because of this and because of the issues with the usb drive (which fixed the usb drive issue btw). im using the computer for about an hour then all of a sudden, again the exact same issue. the computer shuts off and restarts. i get the same error message, windows recovered from an unexpected error. here are the details that it had, i copied and pasted.

Ok Leo here are some of your problems and potential solutions:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903251

CAUSE
This problem may occur if the computer is infected with a variant of the HaxDoor virus.

The HaxDoor virus creates a hidden process. Additionally, the virus hides files and registry keys. The executable file name of the HaxDoor virus may vary, but the file name is frequently Mszx23.exe. Many variants of this virus put a driver that is named Vdmt16.sys or Vdnt32.sys on the computer. This driver is used to hide the virus process. The HaxDoor virus variants can restore these files if you delete them.

When you reformatted your system did you do a quick or full format? Also did you leave any open partitions in this process?

i did an "out of box" format that the computer/recovery cd prompted me to do. on 305sr.net they told me it could be the hard drive giving out. ima swap that out and see what happens.

I say blame the RAM a virus would not be causing that issue after you formatted the drive.
