La Carrera Panamericana (1950-1954), the Mexican Road Race, was one of the most famous events in auto racing history. The event was revived as a “stage” rally in 1988 and for twenty years has offered both the experienced racer and the novice an opportunity to experience the thrills and challenges of the original Pan Am, the most difficult road race in the world.

Each year one hundred cars line up in southern Mexico to race nearly 2000 miles north to the border with Texas. The event passes though the heart of the country, marked by a glorious string of mountains and quaint colonial cities. The Mexican Highway Patrol, whose top officers travel with the race, clears the highways for the speed stages. Along the way the drivers will be cheered on by thousands of spectators.

Each night the race stops in a different city. This year it will start in Tuxtla Gutierrez, and stop in Oaxaca, Mexico City, Aguascalientes, Querétaro, San Luis de Potosi, and Zacatecas. Thses cities are at high altitude; the weather is typically cool and clear. The race will end in Nuevo Laredo, across the border from Laredo, Texas.

The Mexican Road Race is always an adventure! Just getting a racecar to the start is a challenge. It remains a serious test of drivers and their cars, and a major cultural experience. Just finishing the race in Nuevo Laredo after seven long days behind the wheel is a major accomplishment. It's a lifetime of memories. Join us this year! You may never have the opportunity again.

At first when i was reading it i was thinking "whats the big deal?", but since you have to use pre-65 model vehicles it caught my interest. Sounds awesome.
