NISSAN AT THE TOKYO MOTOR SHOW 2005 – GT-R PROTO

At a glance:

At the 35th Tokyo Motor Show in 2001, Nissan unveiled the GT-R Concept, confirming that the GT-R legend would be continued into the 21st century. Then, at the 37th Tokyo Motor Show in 2003, Nissan announced the next-generation GT-R would be rolled out in 2007. Now with the launch of the production model just two years away, the development of the new GT-R has moved ahead again with the reveal of the GT-R PROTO.

Ultimate driving pleasure

In essence, driving pleasure means that a car responds faithfully to the driver's wishes and performs precisely as expected. Successive generations of the GT-R have consistently pursued this vision of ultimate driving pleasure. Whether on the road or the racetrack, the GT-R has always represented ultimate performance combined with handling qualities that stay faithful to the driver’s wishes, in all conditions. As a result, the GT-R has built a reputation that extends far beyond just its loyal owner base.

Exterior design: pure performance

The design of the GT-R PROTO expresses pure GT-R heritage, coming from the first model PGC10 (1969) through R34 (1999), in a new and expressive form.

From its original roots as a pure-bred Japanese performance car, the new GT-R will now be a car sold globally, recognising its ability to compete with the very best in the world. For the first time in its history, the new GT-R will be designed as a specific body-style, and not derived from a sedan.

The design language of the GT-R PROTO is expressed by a distinctive body-style that communicates pure performance and functionality. The form of the GT-R PROTO instantly expresses its purpose and potential, but in a way that is unique to this iconic car.

At the front end, the single centre air intake is designed to optimise airflow and to strongly link the identity of the GT-R from R34 to GT-R Concept (2001). Front fenders are uniquely designed through intensive analysis of the airflow around the tyres and the air vent behind the front fender also optimises aerodynamics. The sides of the body are sculptured towards the rear fender, expressing the power and dynamic tension of the car.

The overall shape of the body combines solid and smooth surfaces to achieve the look of a well-trained athlete. The unique C-pillar crease is designed for optimum aerodynamics, reflecting the racing DNA of the GT-R.

The rear of the GT-R PROTO is strong and well defined. The signature four ring-shaped tail lamps provide an immediate visual link to previous GT-R models. Four large-bore exhaust pipes complete the purposeful look, which could only be that of a pure GT-R.

The GT-R PROTO provides for the first time a clear indication of the final design direction for the production model to be launched in 2007, the first all-new GT-R in eight years.

Official may be released as early as this week, as it will be shown at the Toyko Auto Show this month.

Apparently its the final sketch for the production. They have already made the car based on those sketches and will be on display in the tokyo show or whatever lol... sometime this month.

like i said before.. its not the skyline anymore so it will not longer be a sport trim of sorts from a family sedan. so they prolly wont

Skyline = 4DR and their 2DR (2DR G35 or 350GT) and the 4DR G35... the next GTR will not be based on the V35 chassis... as everyone thinks it will since nissan was messing around with the V35 (2DR G35)

first of all its a G35 with a body kit

look at the badges and its left hand drive... thats not something from japan

pretty much...

except the skyline was a 2 door version of a 4 door sedan

the vette is always 2 doors..

i think thats why they did.. to not have to associate the sporty gtr with the 2 door sedan (even tho there is a the g coupe)

Danny, I know its a G35... All it has done was beef up the VQ35, new INFINITI rims... wide body... and a kit made specifically for that wide body... fatter tires... gay wing... I know its a V35 Chassis... reason why Nissan is messing with a LHD V35 is for the US... how the skyline or GT-R would look like here in the US. If Nissan are making sketches of the new GT-R then using a V35 as their new GT-R isn't going to happen, maybe the Skyline (since its been done already). Thing is in the past both the Skyline and the Skyline GT-R were used on the same chassis... now (and for a while) they've seperated both the skyline and the GT-R...
which is exactly why i told u it would look nothing like the G u posted damnit.. pay attention

and odds are u wont be getting a Vq35 in that car.. prolly a TT VQ33 or 30

just from what ive heard...

i also heard rumors of them shoving a VQ v8 in there (which might expllain the long ass hood they drew on it )

Just hope the GT-R is in resemblance of what they sketched lol... I'm sure within the month new pictures of the tokyo show will be released and be all over the net.

well they already said the gtr and skyline are different chassis now soall i said was that G u posted isnt gonna be the next skyline :)

man, when I was on the airplane from my vacations, this old guy from peru is telling me that her daughter was in japan and all that. that there where a lot of people from brazil, argentina, and peru. OK, them he told how things changed after latin people got there. he said that in japan people ride in bicycles to the train station take the train to go to work, them came back and rode back home in their bicycles. when latin people came people rode in their bicycles to the train station take the train to go to work, them when they came back there were no bicycles.

things like this is what give us latin people a bad reputation
