economics is a fun major. Helps with real life situations unlike some other majors that have nothing to do with stuff you will really do.
i was told i should minor in it combined with IR for law. mehhh. international political economy i'm taking this semester is pretty boring imo

economics is one of the largest majors entering law schools. and yea, everything i've learned in school for economics in the few classes i've taken is boring as fuck. everything i've learned on my own from a ton of books i've read is fascinating. its all about applying it to your situation and interests.
its more theory than it is math.

the stuff is so dry man, when i'm reading up for an exam its not hard just a bit boring. my conflict, peace, & security class is better. though, IPE and upper division classes are certainly more interesting than the bull core curriculum were.

Thats stupid, worthless is relative to what you want to do with your life or your interest.
It may not be the highest payed major exiting college but worthless is not the right description. Economics is like acct IMO, you either love it and want to major in it, or your meh about it and go through the pre-reqs. I say do it, you can always become a professor and they dont do all that bad.

economics is one of the most sought after degree fields right now with the federal government. also, my neigbhor is an econ. major and is making 90k+ a year as an analyst for some bank (granted he's in his late 30's, but still)
to say its a useless degree is stupid.

I loved my Macroeconomics class in FIU with Prof. Chuderwicz. He was part of the governor's economic advisers to the Fed. His class really tied the loose ends for me as to how money works and the economic trending. He made everyone in the class get a subscription to either the Wall Street Journal or NY times and discuss how current economic events tie into past policy. Amazing how many people in class never had picked up a newspaper until required. Made the subject really interesting and the class felt effortless. Today I still use all the concepts learned there even though what I do for a living does not really require it.

the problem with going from the gold standard to the current fiat standard is that it basically gives the federal gov. a "free pass" to print as much money as it wants. before, you couldnt do this since there was only so much gold.
basically, instead of gold, we substituted it for treasury bonds, printed alot more money and said "fuck it, weve got cash now so lets just buy buy buy from the place that makes it the cheapest". its not necessarily a bad thing because its made the U.S dollar THE currency to trade in on the international markets. however, you can only print so much before inflation pwns your ass.

gold prices have been going up alot because of what i said in my previous post.
the dollar has been steadily declining because of the national debt, along with how much money were printing. essentially, people are saying "shit, the treasury is printing alot of money so its making each individual dollar worth less", which in turn leads people to raw commodities like precious metals since they are much more stable.
