Guys i need help on deiced what amp to go with. I have my JVC radio on cd player already and i am getting a Rockford Fosgate punch 8" sub.

I need just a nice small amp to push that 8" sub nothing major. I do not want to spend more than 90 bucks on an amp.

Also need a box or a tube to fit that 8" where do look for 1 of those.

for a sub, i would go with a class D mono amp. 90 bucks is a tough budget if you want to buy something decent. check ebay for some used soundstream, hifonics, or orion amps. you might find one for around that price range used.

is the sub SVC or DVC?

SVC DVC?

not sure what difference from mono, 2channel, and mutil channel cause there are price differences on them all.

SVC DVC?

mono = 1 channel
2 channel = self-explanatory
multi-channel = self-explanatory

most mono amps are class D amps. this just means they're more efficient but generate a more distorted sound. for low frequency (I.E driving a subwoofer) this isnt an issue since its impossible to hear distortion at such a low frequency.

SVC = single voice coil
DVC = dual voice coil.

this is important as it will tell you what resistance will be seen at the amp depending on how its wired and you will need to shop around for an amp that will match up best with the sub. DVC is generally easier to work with since you can drop the resistance down to 2ohms at the amp and most class D mono amps are 2ohm stable.

if you decide to get one, get one with an internal fan

i had a rubicon 502 before they started to put internal fans in them. i had it at maximum output .5 ohm bridged running two 15 dvc kickers. well it barely tickled the speakers in regards to power they could hold and it knocked so hard. i would clip the shit out of the amp on a daily aand it never ever gave on me. i sold the system to my bud who put it in his benze and continued to abuse on it for another 3 years. the amp never gave in.

i have the same amp right now but with an internal fan. it was only pushing a 10 in my s10 but it pushed the living day lights out of that speaker.

its better to get a bigger amp run it on 2 or 4 ohms so its clearer and more consistant.

ive had this rubicon since 07

its going to push a l7 kicker square sub now at full blast. what will blow first the speaker or the amp? im going to find out

and when i say clipping. i mean that amp hit so hard before it clipped it was burning hot when youd touch it after clipping... shits a soldier

clipping is not good.

you're sending a badly distorted signal to the sub and eventually will blow it. if its mild clipping it wont do much, but is the "clipping" or "protect" light is constantly on, then that shit will blow a voice coil real quick.

did you already buy it?

i just noticed it only handles 150 watts rms and the sensitivity level on it is 84db, which is really weak. you can throw a solid 200 watts rms to it if you keep the gain down and itll hold up fine, but even then 200watts rms is weaksos, unless you're cool with it not being very loud.

id pick one of these up. its a little above your price range, but definately worth it.

shawn has the same amp, and i have an older rubicon thats going on 8years and hasnt flinched. soundstream makes some quality products.

This. I would look for something with ATLEAST 250-300 RMS.

nope have not bought it yet, It is on my list tho to get because it is only 8" sub. I had 1 before and it was was too much for me.

whats your budget for a sub/amp? remember that you will need to factor in the cost of the box (or you can build one yourself if you've got a table saw and some time) and wiring kit.

let me know what you're willing to spend and ill help you piece something together.

yea 150 rms aint shit. buy a small sub with massive rms. therefore you can still put it to work. my 10 " sub had someting like 800 or 900 rms.

Sub and amp i did not want to spend more than 150 for both. I was going with a tube or a small box for the sub, i have no tools to make it so i would like to buy a nice small 1. Not even sure about the wiring kit I have not even thought about that and the cost yet.

I will looking into something with more rms then.
