Don't know what cam you are running or intake and exhaust set up, but 450 w/ a very mild or stock cam and no headers, stock intake & throttle body. These things really respond to intake upgrades and headers. Thunder Racing has great custom grind cams that have been developed ad tested specifically for LS1's.

If you go with a good cam, good exhaust and good intake, you will then get the most out of your heads, give it a good tune (I can hook you up with THE MAN in Tampa). 550 to 600 at the crank are very realistic numbers normally aspirated.

with the stock 6L block from the GM trucks?

btw im running hand ported stock heads that were milled .030 and im running a patriot cam 226/585/112. im also running a ls6 intake, pacesetter LT's and ORY but im gonna change it out to an x pipe and dumps.

Ehh, maybe I overshot a little bit. But with that set up and a good tune I think 475 to maybe 500.

There are guys around here making the kind of power that I said before, but now that I think about it I think most of them are running strokers, so they are probably more in the 7.0 L class. I do know of a 550hp at the wheels Vette still running a 5.7, but he has some serious bucks in it and has left no stone unturned.

Lets say this for sure, you can have a very streetable low 11 second car that still gets decent mileage and will be reliable. The only real weak link is the rear end if you are running the stocker, and the stock clutch. Of course the rear is dependant on getting traction, if you set up the suspension and get sticky tires you will frag the rear in a heartbeat. For $1100 to 1400 you can get a bolt in 12 bolt from Moser or Strange and solve that problem, don't waste time or money building the stocker, they just can't take it.

so theres people making that kinda power on the stock 6L block (i believe its called the lq9 or something like that). once i get the motor making some really good power im going to upgrade the rear end but for now it will be stock (its auto so ill just walk it out the hole)

Well, look at it this way, stock 5.7's in Camaro / Trans Am trim are making 300 to the wheels all day, so that would be about 350 at the crank. Bolt on guys with headers are getting 40 to 50 more at the wheels. Add a cam and head work thats another easy 70 or 80 at the wheels with a cam roughly your spec. So that puts you at 410 at the wheels conservitive. Add the displacement and you are there.

Yeah, projects always have a way of getting out of hand and getting into your pocket!

You have a good plan with the rear and the auto, they do live longer, but it will still be a short timer unless you are stock on the traction, which equals none! lol

The other thing you gotta figure on is a stall converter, you probably want to be in the 2800 to 3200 range for street use, the LS1's love higher stalls, they need to be up in the RPM range more than a LT1, the higher stall makes your dyno numbers lower, but your track times go way up. They make their best power when the LT1 is running out of breath, 3000 to 6500 is what LS1's like. When you get it tuned they will probably kick the rev limiter from the stock 6200 to about 6700, and you will find it several times while you are getting used to it!

By the way, I had a 98 Camaro auto that ran 13 flat with bolt on's. Then I went to and 02 TA WS6 6 speed, which I am still kicking myself in the ass for getting rid of, it was running mid 12's with bolt on's and headers. I was all geared up for a head cam deal on that car that would have put it at 450 at the wheels, and ended up selling it before I pulled the trigger. :slap:

i alreayd have a 3200 stall so im good in that department :)

a buddy also has a built auto tranny laying in his garage he told me to just come pick up and he will sell it to me for what he built it for which is cheap. i think im gonna try to get the 6liter cause it would make a good project motor.
